Back Pain
Just about everyone has experienced back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain can last a few days, weeks or months, and in the case of chronic back pain—years. For some, back pain may occur in cycles coming to their attention if they “overdid it” a little on the weekend, while others have a harder time figuring out just exactly what they did to bring on their back pain. No matter which of these scenarios apply, those who suffer from back pain are seeking back pain relief.
Back Pain Symptoms
Common symptoms of low back pain appear in a variety of feelings ranging from a dull ache, sharp shooting, burning or a stabbing feeling. One can also have complaints of radiating pain down a leg, some may refer to this as sciatica. In some cases, there can be loss of muscle strength and control and in severe cases, there can be sudden loss of bladder and bowel control; this is an emergency condition and one should consult their physician immediately.
Back Pain Causes
Back pain may be caused by injury or overuse of the muscles, ligaments and discs, biomechanical dysfunctions of the spine, and myofascial tightness. Pressure on nerve roots can be caused by a bulging or herniated disc, osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis or compression fractures. Back pain can also be caused by pelvic floor dysfunction.
